Perched on the cliff overlooking the Ardèche, Aiguèze is one of the most beautiful villages in France. It is the first and so far the only village in the Gard to receive this prestigious label. The "Castelas", the old fortress wall-walk, provides views to Mont Ventoux and across the valley of the Ardèche. Since 1905 a suspension bridge connects Aiguèze to St. Martin and the early twentieth century saw the development of a square with plane trees, boules area and cafés making for a pleasant stopping place. The renovated church encloses Gothic Revival frescoes and Baroque furniture, and concerts are held there in July and August.

Every year a large medieval festival is held on the first sunday in July, and in summer one can enjoy the Provençal market every thursday. Experienced hikers can enjoy the mediterranean scrubland by the GR4, leading to the gorges of Ardèche or hamlets of the nearby villages (La Roquette, Trescouvieux, Saint-Julien-de-Peyrolas ...).
